Bicycle Tours in USA: Bicycling Arizona's Sonoran Desert (TourzPlus™)

Join us and bicycle through stands of giant saguaro cacti in Saguaro National Park. Hike in stunning Sabino Canyon where red rock cliffs tower above the stream that sustains this desert oasis. Bicycle to the renowned Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum. Our route to a small artist enclave takes us by towering red rock mountains and sweeping vistas that extend to Mexico. We'll also enjoy a layover day at a remote guest ranch, where a wrangler-led horseback or mountain bike ride provides a different perspective of this unique southwestern landscape.

Learn more about our TourzPlus™ partner tours and how they differ from regular ExperiencePlus! bicycle tours.

Day 1: Welcome to Tucson

Highlights: Bike fitting, welcome dinner

Your bicycle trip begins with an early afternoon airport pick-up at the Tucson Airport. Enjoy a warm-up ride before settling into your room and enjoy the pool and grounds. Daytime temperatures are typically in the mid 60's to low 70's and the weather is wonderful for outdoor activities. Following an introductory meeting, get acquainted with your fellow travelers during a private welcome reception and Sonoran dinner. (6 -15 miles)

Day 2: Saguaro National Park

Highlights: Saguaro National Park

This morning you'll have a spectacular introduction to the Sonoran Desert. The giant saguaro along with dozens of other types of cacti, are ever-present along our quiet route through the Park. During the afternoon you can choose between a 2 to 8-mile walk through a gorgeous nearby canyon, relax by the pool or indulge in a spa treatment. The canyon walk follows a creek that provides an oasis for wildlife. Dinner is together. (8 - 41 miles)

Day 3: Tuscon Mt. Park and Arizona Desert Museum

Highlights: Gates Pass, Desert Museum

Today's ride winds through stunning Gates Pass to the Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum. This amazing museum houses more than 300 animal species and more than 1200 varieties of plants in a beautiful natural setting. Broad sweeping vistas reach to Baboquivari and Kitt Peaks during your afternoon ride to a guest ranch which is one of the last remaining Spanish Haciendas in the country. Refresh yourself in the pool or enjoy a cocktail in the Cantina before a delicious meal. Lunch is on your own today. (18 - 82 miles)

Day 4: Patagonia

Highlights: Wine tasting

The scenery changes as you ride south through sweeping grasslands and into Arizona's wine country. Relax and unwind during a private luncheon and wine tasting where the first of Arizona's vines were planted in 1973. This evening kick up your heels during country line dancing at the inn.

Day 5: Bicycle to a small artist enclave

Highlights: Scenery Abounds

The faded storefronts and local watering hole are sure to summon your camera from your bag as you explore this tiny town. You're more likely to encounter cattle than cars today as you ride through miles of open range. Enjoy beautiful views of jagged red rock peaks of distant mountain ranges as you traverse the valley. Our destination for the evening provides an intimate setting for our final dinner together. (12 - 56 miles)

Day 6: Vistas & the Arts

Highlights: Coronado National Forest, Tubac

Opt for an invigorating and scenic ride through the Coronado National Forest to a viewpoint high above the valley floor or visit the Tumacacori National Historic Park to explore the remains of an early Spanish Mission. Play a round of golf on the Resort's 18-hole course, or indulge in one of their spa treatments or massages. Visit the town of Tubac - named one of the top small cities and towns for the arts. This afternoon, we'll transfer you to the Hyatt to prepare for an amazing evening of star gazing at worldfamous Kitt Peak Observatory! (10 - 46 miles)
