Lone Star belt buckles and old faded Levis...longhorn cattle and big blue skies. We'll let you in on a bit of a secret - the Texas Hill Country is one of the best places in the country for bicycling. Miles of single and two-lane back roads wind through gently rolling
limestone hills and river valleys lined with cypress trees. Sprawling ranchlands, crystal
clear rivers and fields of wildflowers as far as the eye can see. Visit small country ranch
towns and explore the beautiful city of San Antonio.
Day 1: San Antonio
Highlights: Welcome to San Antonio
Lodge at the Hilton San Antonio Airport and meet your tour leaders the following morning after breakfast.Day 2: Fredericksburg
Highlights: A picture perfect bicycle ride
Wind along quiet back roads past fields of wildflowers, over small creeks and under the shade of Live Oak trees. Watch for deer and free ranging livestock as you make your way to Waring for one of the best soft tacos you've ever tasted. Cross the beautiful Guadelupe River and continue to the wild and wooly town of Luckenbach, Texas - made famous by the song of the same name sung by Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson.Day 3: Fredericksburg
Highlights: Willow City Cycling Loop, Knot in the Loop Saloon
One of the most popular rides in Texas Hill Country is the Willow City Loop - especially in wildflower season. The route winds through canyons and open fields painted in rich purple hues of the Hill Country's famed Texas Bluebonnets. Stop in for some local color of a different kind at the Knot in the Loop Saloon before heading back to town. This afternoon, opt for a massage at the inn, explore the shops in Fredericksburg, or visit the National Museum of the Pacific War.Day 4: Fredericksburg
Highlights: LBJ Ranch, hike Enchanted Rock
Ride along the Pedernales River to LBJ Ranch, recently opened to the public. This beautiful and peaceful oasis continues to operate as a working ranch and is best appreciated by bicycle. Return to town to continue your exploration of Fredericksburg or join your leaders for a hike on Enchanted Rock -- an unusual granite dome that punctuates the gentle landscape.Day 5: Comfort, TX
Highlights: Comfort - listed on the National Register of Historic Places
Ride through open range along farm to market roads that are so lightly traveled they seem like bike paths. Watch for longhorn cattle, goats and sheep along the route. The charming small town of Comfort has lost little of its character during the past century and many of the town's buildings are on the National Register of Historic Places. Lounge by the river or relax at the pool before dinner.Day 6: San Antonio
Highlights: Bandera - the Cowboy Capital of the World
Enjoy a country route to Bandera, the self-proclaimed Cowboy Capital of the World. Once in town, take time to visit the historic limestone courthouse and the shops filled with western wear, crafts, and antiques. Don't miss the OST Diner for lunch - serving all-day breakfast since the 1940's. This afternoon you'll hop in the van for the short trip to San Antonio and the famed La Mansion, where guest rooms feature balconies overlooking a quiet section of the River Walk.Day 7: San Antonio
Highlights: Mission Trail
Ride through history on the Mission Trail, a mix of bike paths and marked routes connecting the remaining Spanish frontier missions around San Antonio. The ride ends with lunch at the popular Blue Star Brewing Company and Bike Shop. The afternoon and evening are free to explore San Antonio.Day 8: San Antonio
